The death of a Georgia firefighter during a drill on Wednesday was the first since the death of an Army firefighter at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, in November, the Georgia Department of Public Safety said.
The accident happened about 4:15 p.m. near the entrance of the training area at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, which is located on the Georgia-South Carolina border.
The fire department received a call about a suspicious vehicle, the department said in a statement.
When they arrived at the scene, they discovered the fire truck and found an injured firefighter inside, said Capt. Paul Mays, a spokesman for the department.
The firefighter was taken to a hospital where he died.
He was identified as 31-year-old David P. Pascu of Atlanta.
The Department of Safety said the department is investigating the incident.
