FLORIDA — A Florida man has been arrested for making a bomb that exploded while he was attempting to leave the Sunshine State.
The Palm Beach Post reports that 49-year-old Eric Spera was arrested on Tuesday on charges of criminal mischief and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
Speras bond was set at $50,000.
He was released on $25,000 bond and ordered to return to court Aug. 31.
Police said the device was made from a homemade pressure cooker, and it was found to contain several pounds of ammonium nitrate, which is used in building explosives.
Authorities said Spero was trying to make a bomb in his boat on March 7, and that he was using the device to make bombs and had intended to use it to make the bombs on the boat.
Spera reportedly was on his way to visit his sister in Miami and to buy food for her, according to police.
He had been staying with his girlfriend in the state, according the Miami Herald.
